National Film Awards: Alia Bhatt and Kriti Sanon Co-Win Best Actress, Allu Arjun Clinches Best Actor

The 69th edition of the National Film Awards was unveiled during a press conference in New Delhi today. The winners’ lineup had a significant presence of Hindi cinema, with the movie “RRR” also garnering considerable recognition. Alia Bhatt and Kriti Sanon jointly secured the Best Actress accolade for their outstanding performances in “Gangubai Kathiawadi” and “Mimi,” respectively. Allu Arjun was honored as the Best Actor for his stellar role in the blockbuster “Pushpa: The Rise.” This marks the debut National Award for all three esteemed actors. “Rocketry: The Nambi Effect” was bestowed with the Best Film award. Pankaj Tripathi, Kriti’s co-star in “Mimi,” achieved the Best Supporting Actor title, while Pallavi Joshi clinched the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in “The Kashmir Files,” which also triumphed as the Best Film on National Integration. It’s worth noting that both Pankaj Tripathi and Pallavi Joshi have received special recognition in the past.

The movie “RRR” walked away with an array of awards, including the distinction of Best Popular Film. The film also shared the Best Music honor, with Kaala Bhairava earning the Best Male Playback Singer recognition for the track “Naatu Naatu,” while Shreya Ghoshal secured the Best Female Playback Singer award. “Gangubai Kathiawadi” and “Sardar Udham,” crowned as the Best Hindi Film, also garnered multiple awards. “Gangubai Kathiawadi” claimed the Best Screenplay award, among other notable recognitions. Additionally, “Shershaah” was presented with a Special Jury award.

The eminent filmmaker Ketan Mehta, who chaired the jury, officially unveiled the winners in the feature film category.

The prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest cinematic honor in India, is yet to be announced.

The National Awards ceremony, presided over by President Droupadi Murmu, is scheduled to take place later this year. Notably, the previous year’s awardees included Suriya and Ajay Devgn, who shared the Best Actor accolade for their remarkable portrayals in “Soorarai Pottru” and “Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior,” respectively. Suriya’s co-star Aparna Balamurali was also part of the celebrated winners’ circle.
